2014 Autumn Update – Galley

Now that the gas installation is complete, the galley construction can be finished. We have just completed a shelf behind the sink. The coving and fairing is complete, and it is all ready to finish the painting. Painting out the galley is on the critical path, and we need to get this completed as soon as possible so that the turret can be built over the saloon.

October Update – Port Head

The head in the bow of the port hull is an en-suite for the visitor’s cabin in the port hull. It is very tight in there, but just enough space for the head, a basin and a shower, with some storage space.

October Update – Port Cabin

The cabin in the port hull is being set up for visitors. The bed runs longitudinal, with the step up at the forward end only. Look at the curved lip around that step, laminated up out of bending ply. Opposite is a hanging cupboard, with the doors being configured to provide a private changing area just outside the head.

October Update – Starboard Wardrobe

The wardrobe, forward of the starboard cabin, is complete, painted out with the deck glued on. Once the deck is down over the rest of the cabins, the hatch can be cut out, providing light and more head room.

October Update – Starboard Cabin

This cabin has been painted with 2 coats of undercoat. The finish is very smooth, but we have been working on the arches through the bulkheads, and they have prevented the painting from being completed.

October Update – Nav Station

The side on the outside of the hull is complete, but the nav table has not been started. This will be one of the next jobs to be done, and then that cabin is complete.

October Update – Starboard Head

Parts of the floor have been glued down, so that the bench can be built for the basin. Plumbing through to the black water tank is incomplete, and needs to be finished before the floor can be glued down.

October Update – Saloon

Not much has happened up here.

I figure we can paint this area after the turret roof is on, but the hold up has really been the cooker and sink in the galley.

We started into the saloon seating area, but could not decide on the space required for the cooktop.

October Update – Cockpit

The cockpit is almost ready to glass out with cloth and epoxy resin.

The helm seat support bos is complete, with a compartment for the generator which vents out into the engine box, and storage space. The compartments were painted before the box was fitted.

The large motor on the port hull has a removable and hinged lid which includes seating space, and easy access to observe the motor when under way. Due to the power tilt/trim mechanism, this motor had to be mointed 5 inches heigher on the hull, hence the large box cowling over the top. You will see in one photo the metal section that will extend the motor leg from 25 to 30 inches.

A large lazarette locker is completed in the port hull, with the intention of holding our foldup bicycles.,
