Outboard Pod

The outboard pods form part of the bridgedeck that joins the two hulls. The pod is now finished on the first hull, and this post goes right back to the start and shows the progress of the pod from start to finish. The following gallery of photos show the progression of the pod, from the initial frames through the assembly of the frames and the sheeting of the hull. Rather than adding the pod framing to the edge of the completed hull frames, the hull frames have been modified to incorporate the outboard pod from the start. This results in a lighter and stronger assembly.

The profile of the pod curves over those pre-built frame extensions. The corner frame is formed up out of 1 pieces of 19×19 laminated together, so that the natural form of the curve is identical to the curve of the 42×19 stringer at the deck height.
